MOSAIC ART CLASSES BY SONIA KING
Come join in the fun and learn the art of mosaic. Both beginners and advanced students benefit from instruction covering various techniques as well as a wide range of materials, grouts and adhesives. Mosaic classes are kept small (sign up early!) so that everyone receives individualized instruction.
Sonia teaches workshops both internationally and in various locations around the United States. Additionally, regular mosaic classes are offered at the Creative Arts Center of Dallas. These include five-day advanced mosaics workshops as well as eight-week courses, available throughout the year.

2008 dates will be July 20-24
Broaden techniques and use of materials while developing ideas for a mosaic
panel. Students will consider working with texture, scale and spacing and
achieving effects through varied cutting and laying styles. A range of
mediums including glass, unglazed ceramics, minerals and fossils, may be
used.

All classes are held at the Creative Arts Center of Dallas, which is just east of downtown Dallas and off I-30. (See map.) Classes include five-day advanced mosaics workshops as well as eight-week courses, available throughout the year. To register, please call the

Advanced Workshop
Explore a new technique or material in this intensive class conducted over 5 days. Choose to work with materials such as vitreous glass, smalti or stone in the direct or indirect method, or propose a special project you've been dreaming about. You'll leave the advanced class with an elevated sense of what mosaic is all about, a new way of thinking about your work and a broader skill set. Discussions and demos include materials, suppliers, and cutting technique. Some prior mosaic experience recommended. Discussion of proposed project and materials with instructor is recommended before class. Some supplies, including grout and glue provided. Enrollment limited to 8 students.
$550 ($580 non-members) $25 supply fee

Regular Ongoing Mosaic Course

Various mosaic techniques are taught utilizing a wide range of materials, grouts, and adhesives. Students work on projects of their choice. Suitable for beginners and more advanced students. Class fee includes use of nippers, grout, glue and some tile.

Teacher Qualifications
Sonia is a full time, working mosaicist at her studio in Dallas. She works primarily in smalti, vitreous, marble, stone, ceramic, etc. Sonia was recently awarded an international Spectrum Award for both excellence and creative use of tile. Her work is represented in numerous corporate, private and public collections. Sonia is a founding member and past President of the Society of American Mosaic Artists as well as a member and director of the Associazione Internazionale Mosaicisti Contemporanei, based in Ravenna, Italy. Sonia is the author of Mosaic Techniques and Traditions from Sterling Publishing. Sonia and Emma Biggs are currently co-writing Mosaic Master Class: The Advanced Techniques.
