Create contemporary mosaic in the land of the ancients
Intensive Mosaic Workshop in Tunisia

OpioCarthage Factory, Tunis, Tunisia
June 8-12, 2009

This year the France class will be in Tunisia! Join Sonia for an advanced mosaic workshop in a country where mosaic is a centuries old tradition and enjoy the welcome of a culture with a rich tradition of hospitality and kindness. This will be a rare opportunity to enhance your mosaic skills in a inspiring and stimulating environment.

The class will explore color, light and texture working direct in marble, the Romans' traditional material, as well as a wide mix of vitreous glass (opaque, transparent, flamme, etc.). Technically there will be extensive inquiry into cutting techniques, methods of laying and broadening your skill set. But most importantly, you'll leave the workshop with an elevated sense of what mosaic is all about, a new way of thinking about your work and the knowledge to enable you to push to the next level. Some prior mosaic experience is recommended.

One day will be spent visiting the Bardo Museum, the largest collection of Roman mosaics in the world. We will also visit the museum in Carthage as well as see Roman mosaics in the archeological ruins at ancient Carthage. One evening we'll go to Sidi Bou Said, a lovely 'white and blue' town perched high above the Mediterranean.

The course fee includes:
* Five Star beach hotel accommodation for 6 nights (air-
conditioned, private room with in-suite bathroom)
* Breakfast daily and lunch on classroom days
* Last night dinner at a superb restaurant
* Transfers Tunis Airport/Hotel/Tunis Airport (June 7 and 13)
* Transfers Hotel/OpioCarthage/Hotel on class days
* One day excursion to mosaic sites including the Bardo, Carthage and Sidi Bou Said
* All instruction, materials and supplies (bring your own tools)

Space is limited so early registration is highly recommended. Class cost is $3,750 US. (In the unlikely event that the US to Euro exchange rate worsens beyond €1 = $1.5, there may be a small surcharge.) Eight participants are required for the class to be held. Maximum class size is eight - no exceptions. E-mail to confirm space availability. Deposit of $500 is required on booking and the class will fill on a first- come, first-in basis. Balance of the fee is due by April 1st.
