Nebula Aqua
Nebula Chroma, has been selected for inclusion in RavennaMosaico, First International Festival of Contemporary Mosaic in Ravenna, Italy; October 10 to November 20
Nebula Chroma has won the 2009 international Spectrum Award for Design and Detail! Children's Medical Center of Dallas is opening another tower which includes a new main entrance for one of the largest pediatric healthcare providers in the nation. The brightly colored mosaic wall in the main lobby continues Sonia's long relationship with Children's and wins the second Spectrum Award for Sonia's work at the hospital. The awards recognize creativity and achievement in the use of tile and are sponsored by the Tile Council of America, the Association of Ceramic Tile Manufacturers of Spain, Assopiastrelle (the Italian tile association), the National Tile Contractors Association and the Ceramic Tile Dealers Association.

Sonia is the featured artist for the cover story in the recent issue of Grout, the journal of the British Association for Modern Mosaic. The article looks at Sonia's career as a mosaic artist and her impact on the art of mosaic.
Sonia has been invited to be the guest artist at the 2009 Festival of the Arts in Lake Oswego, Oregon. The 46-year old festival has chosen contemporary mosaic art as the medium for it's cornerstone special exhibit. Sonia will be speaking at the patron preview party, jurying the exhibit and teaching an advanced workshop. The Festival takes place June 25-28, 2009.
The In Progress page features the beginning images of Nebula Aqua, a mosaic installation for a private home. It will be a series of five to seven 'Nebula', integrating semi-precious stones, mineral specimens, tiles, smalti and more. The mosaics are being created on mesh and will be installed, ungrouted, moving around a curved stucco wall and floating downstairs. These are an interpretation of Sonia's fine art mosaics into a larger, permanent setting.
Sonia's work is being featured in an upcoming Dutch mosaic book, De Kunst van het Mozaieken, by Greet Weitenberg and Marcelo de Melo. It is being piblished in August by Forte Uitgevers in
The Netherlands.
Sonia recently spoke at the congress of the AIMC, the international association for comtemporary mosaic, in Gaziantep, Turkey. After serving six years on the AIMC board, Sonia is now a Vice President of the international association.
The remodel of the new studio in San Francisco is finally done. Once materials are shipped in (over the next few months), Sonia will be working out of both the Dallas studio and the new one.
Sonia has been selected as the artist for the new Pleasant Grove Library by Dallas' Public Art Committee. The library is currently in the design phase. Sonia is working with the architects from Hidell and Associates, designing site-specific mosaic art into the library environment.
